Stomp Out Loud: Good Resource to Help Students Analyse the Musical Components in a Musical Workbook. Develop a stomp ensemble play a small part of a DVD-length presentation on the group stomp. Group use anything but ordinary percussion instruments for making beats pleasing to the ear and eye.
For every song that is performed by the group, a Stomp Out Loud Worksheet is created. The sheet is designed to be an easy to read and print document. It has three main sections:
The first section provides students with a short introduction to the group and to each other. The group name, number, music group, members, and their positions are all stated in this section. Then the group is introduced to the music that they will be playing. The title is the most important part of the introductory text. This can be anything from “The New York Philharmonic” to “Trombone for Strings”. The text also gives information about how long a group will be performing. This is done with a brief paragraph that describes how long the performance will last.
The second section describes the different instruments that a group can use. This includes information about what each instrument is, where it is found, and the cost of buying or renting the instrument. Most students are familiar with the four main instruments and know what they are used for. The percussion instruments that a group can use are percussion drums, cymbals, maracas, and percussion sticks. The cymbal is the least used of the four and it is important to mention that most people learn to play the bass drum. The cymbal should not be played louder than fifty percent of the rest of the ensemble.
The percussion sticks are played by each band members and placed on the chart. This is so the group is able to easily see the place where each member is located during the performance. A short description of the cymbal and snare must be included with the chart so the audience can be familiar with the place.
The third and final section of the worksheet explains the process of making beats. A group can create their own beats by using a set of music that they enjoy listening to. For example, a group can choose some of the beats from the New York Philharmonic or the sound of a drum circle. After a group has recorded their own beat, it can be placed on the worksheet for other students to listen to. Once a beat is played by a group, the sheet can be printed out and placed in the next lesson.
