Nebraska Increases Series Lead to 4-1

On Saturday, June 23, 2012 the Nebraska 8-man team with a strong showing on defense was able to shutout the visiting Kansas team. Nebraska got a quick lead with 13-0 after the first quarter and continued to dominate throughout the rest of the game. The final score of the game was Nebraska 25, Kansas 0. This increase the series led in Nebraska’s favor by winning the last four games in a row. Nebraska lost the first game in the series.

Both teams traded series before the Nebraska team scored on their second series of the game. Jed Fenske (Sargent) rushed for 42-yards for the first touchdown. The PAT run failed. Nebraska was able to score one more time before the quarter ended. Garrett Borcher (Pawnee City) rushed for four yards, and Tyke Kozeal kicked the PAT. The score after the first quarter was Nebraska 13, Kansas 0.

Nebraska added one more touchdown before halftime. Fenske rushed for his second touchdown by rushing 10 yards. Kozeal kicked the PAT, and the score at the end of the half was Nebraska 20, Kansas 0.

Neither team was able to score in the third quarter. Kozeal kicked a 37-yard field goal with 7:00 remaining in the quarter. The final score of the game was a team safety. The final score of the game was Nebraska 25, Kansas 0.

MVPs for Nebraska were Jed Fenske (Sargent) on offense and Tyke Kozeal (Sargent) on defense. MVPs for Kansas were Ross Binford (Kiowa County) on offense and Miles Thomas (Lakeside) on defense.
