35th Annual Sertoma 8-Man All-Star Game
West 47, East 22

On Saturday, June 16th the 35th Annual Sertoma 8-Man All-Star game took place at Hastings College in Hastings. The game was host to some of the best 8-man football players in the state. The West team started off with a 15 0 lead at halftime and extend the lead to 21 0 before the East was able to score. While the East was able to cut the lead down to one touchdown, they were never able to catch up with the West.

There was no score in the first quarter and both teams exchanged the ball back and forth. The second quarter found the West squad scoring three times. The first score was when Joseph Christen (Anselmo-Merna) returned a punt for 74 yards. The PAT kick failed. The next score happened with 18 seconds left in the half when Ryan Mitteis (Creighton) snuck in the end zone on a 1-yard quarterback sneak. The PAT passed failed. The last score was set up with an interception and Kory Kindler (Alma) kicked a 32-yard field goal. The score after the second quarter was West 15, East 0.

The West team scored first in the third quarter when Jed Fenske (Sargent) reception from Colin Janetscheck (Pleasanton) for 81 yards. The PAT kicked fail. The East got their first score of the game when Drew Ott (Giltner) rushed for 1 yard. Ott then found open receiver Kellen Unvert (Freeman) for the PAT. The East scored on a 4-yard rush from Garrett Borcher (Pawnee City). The PAT pass failed. Jed Fenske added the last score of the quarter when he rushed for 4 yards. The PAT kicked failed. The score after the third quarter was West 27, East 14.

In fourth quarter action, the East team scored their finally touchdown with 10:55 left in the quarter. Borcher stripped the ball and rushed for 99 yards. Ott then rushed in the PAT. The last three scores of the quarter came from the West Squad. Their first touchdown was a 1-yard rush from Mitteis. The PAT pass failed. The second score was a Jordan Russell (Garden County) 25-yard interception. Kindler kicked the PAT. The last score of the game was a 24-yard rush from Kalen Anderson (Loomis). Kindler kicked the PAT. The final score of the game was West 47, East 23. p>

The offensive MVPs for the game were Blake Krings (Humphrey Saint Francis) for the East team and Ryan Mitteis (Creighton) for the West team. The defensive MVPs were Garrett Borcher (Pawnee City) for the East team and Tait Sibbel (St. Mary) for the West team.
